Zune comes back from the dead

31st Dec 2008 will be remembered in the history as (one of my friends says ) “The day the Zune stood still”. On Dec 31st, all Zune 30GB versions mysteriously stopped working. All Zunes got stuck at the loading page and stopped responding altogether. With widespread reports ranging from viruses to faulty software everyone, including the MS Zune development team were left their heads scratching at the sudden bricking of their beloved Zunes.

Finally someone figured it out. Apparently the Zune team had not heard of the Y2K problem and not programmed the Zune to incorporate a leap year. So, as soon as the clocks stuck 12, the Zune which was not programmed to recognize the 366th day stopped. The Zune team told everyone to drain out their Zunes completely and revive it back in 2009.

So, now all’s well that ends well. But Zune users are not going to forget this scary incident soon

I knew that this day was not far but it still does not cease to amaze me how much technology has progressed. Patriot’s 64GB is a tough looking product with simple yet business like looks. Vista certified and much larger when compared to other pen drives, this pen drive is definitely going to stand out.

Has a much lower access time, read as well as burst time when compared to other pen drives from reputed companies like SanDisk and Corsair, it proves that the massive size is not a liability.

Only disadvantage in picking this up right now is the price which is around $150. Which is more expensive than even an external 1TB hard drive. But, if price is no issue, then this is the best pen drive you can get!

Google Android uses innovative way to unlock phone

Google are all about innovating, so what can they do different for locking and unlocking the android phone? Google are implementing a pattern unlocking system where you draw a pattern over the 9 dots on the screen to unlock your phone. This pattern can be anywhere between 4 and 9 dots and follows the bellow rules:

Needs to be at least 4 dots
Lit dots cannot be reused
Knight moves can be used
Moving over a dot lights it
Can use already lit dots to reach another

Using these rules the phone will be potentially vastly more secure than the 4 digit pin code on the iPhone as there are a total of 389,112 combinations where as the 4 digit system has 10,000 combinations.

But whats the problem?

Well the flaw with this system is the human body and what it produces, when dragging your finger on a touch screen you leave an oily substance on the screen which someone picking up the phone will be able to use to find out the password.

Sony PSP-3000 unboxing PICS

The PSP-3000 is due to being launched next Tuesday but engadget got a sneak peak when a reader sent in some unboxing pics.

If I’m honest though I much prefer the old design this new rounded design one looks bulky and the silver plastic covering looks very cheap. The photos are taken from weird angles though so I’m hoping that the photo doesn’t justify the actual PSP. Especially when you look at old side by side comparisons where they look pretty much the same expect with better screen.

There were some worries about the new PSP early last month about the new screen draining all the battery life when John Koller, the director of hardware marketing for Sony admitted it in an interview. This was sorted out pretty quickly though as Koller went back on what he said saying that the PSP-3000 will have the same battery life as the old model.
